Read the full story ↓He is a shoemaker, and that is how you catch him.
Most people picture the leprechaun as a small man with a pot of gold. In the old stories he is something more particular: a cobbler, working alone, mending a single shoe. The name is thought to come from leath bhrógan — maker of one shoe. And the way you find him is by ear. You listen for the tap of a small hammer in the hedge, and you follow it, and you do not take your eyes off him, because the moment you look away he is gone.
He is on this one mid-stride, reaching for a shamrock, plainly leaving.
The horseshoe hangs beside him, ends up. There has been an argument about that for two hundred years. One camp says ends up, so the luck collects in the bowl and stays. The other says ends down, so it pours out over everyone who walks beneath. We cut ours ends up. You are welcome to hang the whole piece however you please.
And the shamrock. The story goes that St. Patrick used its three leaves to explain the Trinity — though nobody wrote that down until the 1700s, some twelve hundred years after the fact. Which makes it a fine story rather than a reliable one. The clover itself is honest enough: three leaves are the rule, and a fourth turns up about once in five thousand.

How to Set It
1. Pick a tree trunk, or a sturdy wooden post — the side facing the walk or the window.
2. Hold the spike at a slight downward angle against the wood, pendants hanging free.
3. Tap the end of the branch with a hammer or mallet (a scrap of wood between protects the steel) until the piece holds firm.
No drilling, no screws, no other tools.
The Finish
Pick your finish from the Finish menu on this listing.
Raw Steel (Rusts Naturally): Your piece arrives as bare, raw steel — a clean steel gray. Outdoors, rain and dew turn it a warm rust brown, usually over the first few weeks, and the color keeps deepening with the weather. There is no paint or coating, so there is nothing to peel, fade or touch up. While the rust is forming, rust-colored runoff can mark pale stone, concrete or siding directly below it, so set it over wood, soil or mulch. Prefer the bare steel look? Keep it indoors or out of the rain.
Black Powder Coat: the same steel piece, powder coated in black. It arrives black rather than bare, does not develop the rust patina, and leaves no rust runoff, so it can go over pale stone, concrete or siding. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth. If it ever gets chipped, a dab of black exterior metal paint touches it up.
